The Thomas J. Sullivan Employment Center team helps establish relationships with local business and to develop work assignments for our participants in integrated workplace settings. We offer a wide selection of employment programs to meet people’s varied needs. Individual Placement: It remains our top priority to place people in community jobs that are of interest to them. Each individual is competitively employed, with drop-in supports by employment specialists who go directly to work sites. People taking advantage of individual supported employment do not come to The Arc’s program sites; rather, their employment takes place directly in organizations and businesses within the community. The Arc NLC is consistently building partnerships with area businesses to educate employers about the benefits of hiring our participants, and matching individual talents and skills with available positions in the community. Our goal is to help individuals find jobs of their choice and perform at a competitive level. The Arc’s training programs help people develop a wealth of skills from resume building to interviewing to on-the-job interpersonal skills. We strive to make every job experience match the needs of each individual, and average between 90-100% employment rates. The Arc NLC provides additional support services that include coordination between supervisors and the employee, and we help employees advocate for and receive fair wages and treatment. Group Supported Employment: Groups of three to four people work together with a job coach at various work sites in the community. A job coach is with the individuals at all times to provide supervision and work supports. Individuals are transported by The Arc NLC to the Thomas J. Sullivan Employment Center (Groton site) in the morning, and after work or additional programming, are transported back to their homes. |

School to Work Transition Program The goal of this program is to provide students a smooth transition to successful employment and independence when they age out of the school system at age 21. Students from age 16 to 21 attending area public schools participate in our School to Work Transition program, which is specifically designed to develop job readiness skills, help explore different careers, and provide job placement and life skills training. Currently six area school systems contract with The Arc NLC to provide a transition from school to the world of work. This is accomplished by providing individualized person-centered training and one-on-one job exploration. |
